Digital Equipment Corporation and InSoft Corporation today announced a program which enhances the capabilities of Digital's Alpha AXP family of workstation and servers by making them collaboration-ready technical computing applications. The Collaborative Computing Program permits engineers, scientists, and researchers to be able to collaborate using their familiar applications in a globally-networked environment from Digital, design/modeling results developed using software from any participating vendor may be shared by the entire design team even when they are geographically distributed.

"Customers are looking to increase productivity and reduce time to market in developing new products," said John O'Keefe, vice president of UNIX Systems Marketing for Digital. "This program will allow software developers to provide applications which can be shared over the network, allows the ready exchange of ideas with an electronic whiteboard and includes both audio and video desktop teleconferencing facilities. This range of collaboration offers significant cost reduction and time savings for a wide spectrum of users."

"Collaborative computing lets users take advantage of Alpha AXP processing power and high speed network from Digital," said Keith Wimberley, vice president of marketing for InSoft. "Our OpenDVE software environment allows ISVs to add telecollaboration features to their applications in a simple, straightforward way, while maintaining full compatibility with existing versions. Digital is actively recruiting ISVs into the program for MCAD, EDA, and other scientific and technical applications."

Digital is hosting a world-wide collaborative computing seminar in Maynard, Massachusetts on October 25, 1994. The seminar is targeted at software architects and developers who plan to take advantage of Collaborative Computing software from Digital and InSoft.

Matra Datavision, developer of Euclid MCAD software, is an early participant of the program. "We are extremely interested in enhancing the capabilities of our EUCLID flagship MCAD software," said Sylvain Hochberg, Director of Matra Datavision. "Digital's Collaborative Computing program presents an opportunity for making EUCLID usable and a global development environment."

Digital's workstation family, including the new DEC 3000 Model 900 system, offers the performance and flexibility which deliver on the promises of telecollaboration. The 64-bit Alpha AXP architecture, high clock speeds, and high speed networking assure that the throughput demanded in these application environments is available to all users.
