InSoft, Inc., today announced availability of its
industry-leading LAN/WAN-based desktop conferencing
application, Communique!, for Silicon Graphics
Indy® workstations. InSoft is also shipping OpenDVE, an
application development toolkit that enables third-party
and corporate application developers to write
interoperable collaborative and conferencing
functionality directly into their software solutions.

toolkit that enables cross-platform conferencing between
Sun, Hewlett-Packard, PC Windows, Digital, SGI and IBM
platforms.
Communique! for Indy supports the base hardware
conferencing components such as the IndyCam digital color
video camera, Vino Video, and its CD-quality audio
processing. List price for Communique! software is
$1995, and upgrades to higher resolution cameras and a
conferencing microphone are also available.
Communique! from InSoft is a feature-rich,
collaborative, desktop conferencing solution, which
integrates real-time video technology with fully-
interactive, easy-to-use, document conferencing tools.
Using full-motion color video, users see and sense
reactions of participants in real time, with more than 1
location at a time given Communique!'s multipoint
capability. It is the only multiplatform, interoperable
desktop conferencing solution currently available.
InSoft's SHARE (Shared Application Resource
Environment) is an optional feature available on the SGI
platform. SHARE allows users to share any application
with other InSoft supported UNIX workstations.
OpenDVE is a robust suite of application programming
interfaces (APIs), libraries and management functions
packaged with comprehensive documentation, support and
marketing programs. OpenDVE is based on the InSoft Digital Video Everywhere
(DVE) software architecture that enables true
interoperability between supported Windows and Unix
desktops, video boards and networks such as Ethernet,
ATM, FDDI, Frame Relay, SMDS and ISDN. Its list price is
$12995.
In addition to enabling developers to write
conferencing-ready applications, OpenDVE developers can
write and market custom modules, or Plugins, for their
applications or InSoft Communique! licensed users.
Plugins provide enhanced functionality to the developers
OpenDVE-enabled collaborative and conferencing
applications, and can be integrated into installed Communique!
conference users.
Examples of OpenDVE-based Plugins include enhanced
image capture and viewing modules for telemedicine and
CAD, automated help modules for customer support, speed
dial "Hoot-n-Holler" modules for trading and
financial applications, and remote camera control for
executive conferencing environments.
