InSoft, Inc., today announced that its LAN-based
digital video-to-the-desktop software solution, InSoft
Network Television, INTV!, is now available for
Windows-based PCs, and Hewlett-Packard Series 700 and Sun
Microsystems Unix workstations.
Citing increased demand within the financial and
government markets for users to access breaking news or
mission-critical video information, InSoft Chairman &
CEO Daniel L. Harple, Jr. said "There are a large
number of people whose on-the-minute decisions are
directly impacted by global events. Getting that video
information directly to the desktop computer, at a low
cost, with high quality and minimum bandwidth, makes INTV!
a powerful business communications tool."
Based on InSoft's Digital
Video Everywhere (DVE) communications software
architecture, INTV! allows video and audio data to
be distributed across the LAN or WAN to users on an
"on-demand" basis. Video and audio compression
is managed in the underlying DVE software, so users do
not need video capture boards in their desktop computer
in order to view INTV!.
Stephen Scullen III, Director, Treasury Systems for
the Bank of Boston, said "Now, most traders run it
100% of the time, and INTV! has wedded itself into
the day-to-day business practices of our traders and
those in our executive offices. Without question, InSoft INTV!
is a prerequisite to doing business on our trading floor.
The fact that InSoft solutions run interoperably across
my key platforms is a major factor in my decision
making."
INTV! is easily integrated into a client/server
architecture and uses digital video as opposed to
"out-of-band" analog feeds. Any
InSoft-supported desktop computer can be configured with
standard cabling as a non-dedicated video server. From
the server, the system or network administrator has
complete control over each users frame rate and video
window size.
Considering that time and throughput on the network is
always at a premium, INTV! uses IP Multicast
technology to significantly reduce network traffic, CPU
and system-bus resource. Multicast applies special
addresses that are reserved for multicast messages and
will be processed only by those nodes which have
requested a message. As opposed to singular
transmissions, these messages are optimally distributed
to all nodes simultaneously, which greatly reduces
network bandwidth to multiple desktops.
"In evaluating deployment of video services,
analog distribution was not our preference because all of
our data was planned to be distributed digitally,"
said Scullen. "Digital distribution is cleaner, and
more cost-effective from an infrastructure management
standpoint."
List pricing for INTV! video servers start at
$4995 and INTV! video clients, or viewers, start
at $250. Pricing varies according to system platform,
compression algorithm and licensing structure. Please
