Collaborative multimedia functionality within all networked applications is rapidly
becoming mainstream feature set in today's computing environments. Now application
developers can stay ahead of this technology curve by integrating native multimedia
collaborative and conferencing support directly into their application. In addition to
providing transparent desktop system and network interoperability, the MDL OpenDVE
architecture allows application developers to protect their own programming investment,
while leveraging their customers existing infrastructure investment and providing a
seamless upgrade path as new infrastructures such as broadband networks are put in place.DVE Video And Multipoint CapabilityIn addition to enabling transparent connectivity across desktop systems, packet, telephony, ATM-based networks and the Internet, DVE allows for rapid integration of new video compression technology and standards. A communications "software bus" architecture also permits various compression algorithms to interoperate in a multiplatform session. For example, a desktop system running Indeo can videoconference with another system running H.261, JPEG or any MDL Corporation- supported algorithm. When new standards are accepted, MDL will integrate support into the DVE architecture. As a result, DVE-based MDL products are not tied to any one emerging video standard, but can be engineered to rapidly support new standards. The primary component of DVE to enable this capability is its software digital compression/decompression (CODEC) layer. This layer not only handles the various compression algorithms, but also serves as a software digital multipoint control unit. In addition to highly synchronized audio and video transmissions, DVE enables direct Software Digital Video (SDV) to disk, for store/forward and record/ playback applications. It provides a Visual Interface, so icons, menus and ideo buttons are represented in digital video. This video interface makes MDL products easy-to-use for those who speak different languages. Real-time full motion SDV multimedia Help is packaged with every MDL offering, giving users intuitive, online access to important product usage information. InSync is an adaptive, fully scalable algorithm that transparently balances frame speeds and sampling rates in response to varying CPU and network loads. It delivers the highest quality audio/video synchronization with 24-bit image handling under the most demanding network conditions. Application developers can also build incremental revenue by developing custom plugins to support their own applications, and market them through MDL's Developer Marketing Program to reach additional prospective customers who may require the same solution. |
