From a Business Application Perspective

MDL is the first company to deliver a collaborative multimedia framework to compliment its Intranet and Internet software applications. While all MDL applications incorporate a robust, intuitive suite of collaborative and audio/video features, in some cases, vertical market applications such as CAD/CAM and financial trading environments require customized modules, or plugins. OpenDVE and ICEMaker enable developers to write customized plugins to MDL applications, or license them from third-party application developers. The result is, over time, that MDL customers have extensive access to an unlimited number of vertical-specific, customized plugins.

Business Applications:

Communique!

Communique! is a mature product that is full featured, offers a broad range of powerful capabilities, and is delivered in a Virtual Conference Room environment that is intuitive and easy-to-use.

The features described below highlight the functionality that raises MDL Communique! above all other products.

  • State-of-the-art Desktop Videoconferencing. The most important feature for videoconferencing is state-of-the-art audio/video synchronization. Communique! includes MDL InSync, an adaptive, fully scalable algorithm that transparently balances frame speeds and sampling rates in response to varying CPU and network loads. It delivers the highest quality audio/video synchronization with 24-bit image handling under the most demanding network conditions.
  • Bandwidth Allocations. MDL's throttler allows you to preset your video bandwidth throughput to assure you work within your network limits, yet still achieve productive, effective quality. Network administration tools can also be instituted for greater monitoring and control.
  • Multipoint and Point-to-Point Flexibility. For mixed network environments, both multipoint and point-to-point data transmission are supported in the same conference.
  • The Virtual Conference Room. It's the cornerstone of Communique!'s intuitive highly productive drag-and-drop, point-and-click, multipoint conferencing and video icon interface technology. The Virtual Conference Room represents a true "in the room" feeling which allows you to focus on the content and issues of your meeting instead of focus on the content and the issues of your meeting instead of the software and system configuration. It's where online meetings are conducted between chosen participants, file and image transfers are initiated, and where meetings can be saved reviewed or continued at a later date.
  • Automated Installation and System Configuration. Communique! allows a single directory hierarchy for all supported hardware platform/window manager/video board combinations. At start-up, Communique! determines the configuration of the machine it is being launched on and runs the proper executables. This approach eliminates the need for multiple copies of the software.
  • Conference Manager Video Icons. All Communique! modules and conference members are represented as video icons in he Conference Manager Window resulting in the most intuitive user interface available. International users can also quickly identify functions and conference participants, which is critical in serving today's global markets. MDL's state-of-the -art user interface technology is full configurable. Either system administrators or users can determine which modules are available, and in which order they appear in the window. Additional modules written to the OpenDVE API Toolkit may be installed at any time.
  • Business Card Editor. Communique! includes a business card feature. Each user maintains a business card containing their photo and phone number, along with other contact information.
  • Pre-Set Conferences. With a point-and-click, you can initiate departmental meetings and launch frequently used applications, and access a rolodex, distribution and alias lists from home directories or system databases. A Notebook remembers people you have conferenced with in the past, allowing you to easily build a guest list. Users can now scan a LAN or WAN for possible conference attendees. This reduces the time it takes to bring people together for a meeting.

Communique!'s modular design approach gives you the option to deploy highly productive, lower bandwidth collaborative and conferencing applications, and seamlessly migrate to more powerful videoconferencing capabilities as your requirements evolve.

MDL Communique!Lite. Includes shared whiteboard, text and graphic modules. Communique!Lite supports up to 24 users at one time.

MDL SHARE

MDL SHARE (Shared Application Resource Environment) is a powerful, highly productive collaborative workgroup tool, that allows users to share standard applications in real-time during a Communique! conference and across various supported platforms.

When edits or modifications are made to a document, spreadsheet or drawing, everybody sees it in real-time. More importantly, each participant can be granted control of another associate's remote application, and edit or modify it as if it were their own local program.

Distributed Digital Video Solutions

MDL Network Television, INTV!

Based on MDL's Digital Video Everywhere (DVE) open software architecture, INTV! allows digital video to be distributed across the network to users on an "on-demand" basis. Any supported workstation or server can be configured with standard television cabling as a non-dedicated "TVStation," and the administrator has complete control in regard to each users frame rate and video window size. Video and audio data compression, to reduce network traffic is user controllable through the underlying DVE software, and users do not need a video capture board installed on their workstation in order to view INTV!

To the user, INTV! looks like a standard TV remote control. They simply point-and-click on the remote control interface to access INTV!. Broadcast data is only sent across the network when it is requested by the user.
