Corporate History

InSoft Corporation, Inc., was a privately held company that was formed in May 1991. Since its inception, the company has grown significantly, on an annual basis, in terms of product offerings, customer base, personnel and sales revenue. The following highlights some of the most significant events in the company's short history.

In December of 1991, InSoft shipped System Companion, the company's first product to incorporate true multimedia technology. Comprised of three application modules, System Companion combined multimedia tools with network productivity software to improve workgroup communications, system administration tasks and user productivity.

By June of 1992, InSoft elevated its multimedia technology to the next level and released Communique!, a collaborative and desktop conferencing solution for Sun and SPARC-based platforms. Immediately, the company established itself as a technological leader in supplying desktop multimedia conferencing solutions.

In the fall of 1993, InSoft released InSoft Network Television, INTV!, the first Video to the Desktop product of its kind and it was strongly received in the financial services markets. Also in 1993, InSoft Corporation opened sales and support offices in San Francisco, CA, Providence, RI, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, Dallas, TX, New York, NY and Charlotte, NC. To accelerate its worldwide market presence and operations, international distribution was established in England, Japan, Korea, West Germany, France, Australia and Canada.

In 1994, InSoft's Communique! was awarded Product-of-the-Year by AdvancedSystems Magazine, and its DVE architecture won the Most Significant Advancement in Desktop Conferencing by Applied Business Telecommunications and Teleconference Magazine.

In January 1995, InSoft released its fourth generation product suite, making it the industry's first desktop conferencing solution to provide transparent interoperability between Windows and UNIX desktop systems. InSoft also announced the OpenDVE Developer Toolkit, a collaborative application development architecture for third party and corporate developers.

In October 1995, InSoft introduced GlobalConference, the industry's first generation H.323 LAN/WAN conferencing gateway that bridges InSoft Communique! and OpenDVE-based desktop videoconferencing solutions to H.320 compatible room, group and desktop systems.

To further broaden enterprise deployment of InSoft OpenDVE-based applications, AT&T Global Business Communications Systems (GBCS) announced its Multimedia Communications Services integrating OpenDVE with its Definity-line of PBXs. This integration combines video, voice and data from a desktop computer with the ease-of-use and spontaneity of a phone call.

In January of 1996 InSoft released the Interactive Internet Collaborative Environment (IICE) Product Family. IICE is the industry's first real-time collaborative multimedia framework for the Internet, enabling users to leverage the power of interactive applications such as: real-time interactive audio; real-time interactive video; and real-time shared collaborative tools.

Today, InSoft is owned by Netscape Communications Corporation, which in turn was bought by AOL, a recognized worldwide leader, in terms of technology, quality of product and integration services, and market share. AOL's products are improving communications and workflow in the Intranet and Internet. The InSoft products, including Communique!, InSoft Network Television, INTV!, OpenDVE, GlobalConference, and SHARE have been licensed for further development and support to MDL Corporation in Bellevue, Washington.
