Notes:
--Faster than 15 fps video generally does not provide a noticeable difference in video quality, except with quickly moving subject matter. Note that the movie industry frame rate is 24 fps, and they have to contend with a shutter causing a black image for a portion of the time between each frame.
--CIF (352x288) frame sizes with a quality H.263 or H.261 compressor can be as good as VHS video.
--Telephone quality audio is readily achieved with current codecs (G.711, G.722), and is approached by G.723.1. It can be considerably better than cellular telephone quality with G.723.1.
--Several vendors already have compatibility between them, and almost all are working towards this goal.
--Application sharing at this time can be accomplished between systems with common or similar operating systems. For example, between Unix systems, or between PC’s. There is work being performed to enable application sharing between Unix systems and PC’s, but that has not yet been released.
--VCR-style applications are available with some DVC programs.
--Encryption is available with some DVC programs, and is probably most useful when using a public network for the carrier.
