FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MDL Acquires Rights To Communique!

Desktop Video Conference Software

8 May 1997
Redmond, WA

MDL Corporation today announced that it has acquired the rights to distribute Communique! desktop video conferencing, the popular selling, multicast cross platform video conferencing package. As part of the licensing agreement, MDL Corporation will manage all product distribution, support, maintenance, and upgrades of Communique! and OpenDVE. OpenDVE is based on the Digital Video Everywhere (DVE) software architecture that enables true interoperability between a variety of supported desktops, video compression algorithms, and networks such as Ethernet, ATM, FDDI, Frame Relay, SMDS and ISDN.

MDL plans to upgrade Communique! and OpenDVE to incorporate the following new video conferencing standards; H.323 which provides high quality audio and video at reduced bit rates over local networks, and T.120 which is the standard for application sharing of data over networks. MDL will also be working closely with existing customers to satisfy their maintenance requirements.

MDL will closely coordinate this software with its newly released, cross platform, open system video capture product, SCSICAM. This product enables users of HP, SUN, SGI, IBM and DEC UNIX workstations as well as Windows NT and Windows 95 to use the same high quality video capture product on their systems running on these platforms.

"This is an opportunity for us to expand our product mix and allows us to work with Netscape on a dominant multiplatform, multi-user software package in the desktop videoconferencing market," said MDL's President Michael Lampi.

Doug Mosher, LiveMedia Manager at Netscape Communications Corp. agreed, "MDL is in an excellent position to provide support to existing Communique! customers while further enhancing the product to meet new requirements in this growing market."

Developed by InSoft Corporation, which was acquired by Netscape Communications Corporation in 1996, Communique! is bundled by such companies as Hewlett Packard, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Lucent Technologies.

MDL Corporation, a privately held company formed in 1990, is a UNIX system integrator specializing in cross platform, desktop video conferencing products, mass storage enhancement products, and proprietary software products for HP UNIX systems. MDL's success has been based on providing outstanding customer service and expert technical support.
