Highly ReliableThe Disk Segmentation Driver is designed to provide a means by which large SCSI direct access storage devices, such as Seagate's 9 GB ST410800, Micropolis' 9GB 1991 and DEC's StorageWorks, can be addressed by Hewlett-Packard's HP-UX 9.0x and 10.0x operating systems on HP's 9000 Series 700 workstations. Wide Range of Storage CapacityThe DSD driver provides the widest range of storage capacity available to HP-UX workstation users. Through the use of the DSD driver it is possible to address large disk and RAID systems, dividing the storage into units that can be handled by the operating system. Using the largest partition size of 4GB, it is possible to address up to 64GB on a single SCSI ID. When used with DEC's StorageWorks it is possible to access up to 512 GB on a single SCSI target address using separate SCSI logical unit numbers. High PerformanceThe Disk Segmentation Driver achieves its high throughput by performing I/O request address sorting, and even merges contiguous reads and writes into single SCSI commands. These features improve I/O by up to an order of magnitude over what can be achieved by using a pass-through SCSI driver. Custom FeaturesThe Disk Segmentation Driver can be provided in customized versions to provide features not available in the standard product, including addressing more than 16 partitions. Contact MDL for further information. Software and Hardware Compatible DevicesUsing the partitions made available by the DSD driver is the same as using separate physical disk drives. DSD partitions are compatible with standard HP-UX disk utility programs, including diskinfo, mkfs, newfs, fsck, mount, umount, etc. To protect against inadvertent formatting of the disk the DSD driver includes protections preventing formatting partitions other than zero. The DSD driver is compatible with most SCSI disk hardware on the market today. After the disk drive is connected to one of the workstation's SCSI buses, the utility program provided by MDL is used to set up and initialize the partitions on that drive. Fully SupportedAll products offered by MDL Corporation are intended for installation by the customer. The DSD driver is delivered with a comprehensive user and installation guide. In addition, unlimited telephone support is provided. |
