FAWS Controller

Developed for the Hewlett-Packard/Apollo 9000 Series 700 Workstations, designed and manufactured to meet the highest reliability and performance standards of the industry, the Fast And Wide SCSI (FAWS) subsystem provides the highest level of SCSI bus performance and flexibility to users in the HP-UX environment. FAWS offers the expandability, capacity and throughput required for today's I/O-intensive database, imaging, CAD and multimedia applications.

Fast and Wide SCSI-2

The FAWS subsystem is the highest performance 16-bit wide add-on SCSI bus interface available for HP/Apollo workstations. Data rates of up to 14 megabytes per second are achieved over the FAWS SCSI bus in asynchronous mode, and up to 20 megabytes per second are achieved using synchronous transfers. FAWS data transfer rates over the 32-bit workstation EISA bus are as high as 33 megabytes per second.

Up to four FAWS subsystems may be installed in a single 9000 Series 700 EISA bus, providing up to 60 additional SCSI bus addresses. In conjunction with other MDL products, this can provide direct connection to over 57 terabytes of formatted on-line random access disk storage, or over 800 terabytes of near-line random access data storage.

Compatible Device

FAWS is available with either single-ended or differential SCSI bus interfaces. FAWS is completely hardware and software compatible with all 9000 Series 700 workstations. All system and user programs work without change when using SCSI peripherals connected to this subsystem. The FAWS is compatible with other controllers sharing the 9000 Series 700 EISA bus. In addition, a number of other high performance SCSI peripherals are available from MDL, making FAWS a highly effective expansion option for HP workstation users.

FAWS is completely compatible with narrow and slow SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 bus devices, and will transfer data to and from these devices at the fastest rates possible. Cabling is available from MDL for use with these devices.

Fully Supported

The FAWS subsystem includes the Fast And Wide SCSI interface controller, the FAWS software driver and a comprehensive installation and user guide. A complete one year parts and labor warranty, with overnight exchange, is included as a standard feature.
